Abstract On the issue of the possibility of seeing God in some authentic hadith books of the Imamiyah, There is a hadith attributed to Imam Reza (p.b.u.h) according to which the association of seeing God with faith in him in this world and the hereafter is considered forbidden. Shiite thinkers have listed this hadith as one of the difficult and ambiguous hadiths and have tried to explain its meaning; But the problems that are noticed in their explanations indicate their inaccuracy. According to the intellectual foundations of the theologians of the time of Imam Reza (p.b.u.h), an innovative solution can be proposed based on the opposition of “obligation to faith” and “occurrence of essential knowledge”. And the conflict between “seeing God” and “believing in Him” can be seen as related to the mentioned opposition. But this solution is not without problems; therefore, as stated by some thinkers, the attribution of this hadith to the Imam should be negated, at least in the way it appears in the hadith sources; especially, its content is in conflict with some verses of the Qur’an and some hadiths.

Abstract Critical discourse analysis (CDA) emerged in the 20th century as an approach to discourse analysis that examines the social and cultural functions of discourse. Various scholars have contributed to the development of this approach including Dutch linguist Theo van Leeuwen who has discussed important theoretical issues in the field of CDA. Legitimation is one of his theoretical notions which is based on four components, namely, authorization, moral evaluation, rationalization, and mythopoesis. This theory is a suitable framework for the analysis of legitimation in different texts. The present study uses this theoretical framework to examine the debate of Imam Reza with two prominent Christian and Jewish figures. The research method is descriptive-analytical and the aim is to understand the method of legitimation as well as its effectiveness in Imam Reza’s discourse. The significance of the study lies in the fact that the debate between a major Islamic scholar, i.e. Imam Reza, and two prominent Christian and Jewish figures unveils some truths about Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The findings show that legitimation in Imam’s debate is mostly manifested in the authorization component which helps to resolve controversial issues such as the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad, the prophethood of Jesus Christ, slanders against Jesus Christ, and the lack of divinity of Jesus Christ. In fact, by using a method that fits the religious beliefs of the audience, Imam Reza’s legitimation in discourse has successfully led to the persuasion of the audience.

Abstract Eulogies for the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUH), particularly in praise of Imam Reza (PBUH), have a long tradition in Persian literature, with prominent poets like Sanai Ghaznavi, Khaqani Shirvani, and Jami having produced notable works in this genre. One of the most renowned eulogies dedicated to Imam Reza (PBUH) is an ode composed by Khaled Naqshbandi Shahrzuri, a celebrated figure of 12th-century literature and mysticism, during his pilgrimage to Mashhad. This ode gained widespread acceptance from the time of its creation. This study first presents a brief overview of the poet’s life and works. Then, using a descriptive-analytical method based on the criteria of layered stylistics, the ode is analyzed across five layers: phonetic, lexical, syntactic, rhetorical, and ideological. By identifying prominent and frequent features, the study explains the stylistic distinctiveness and the connections between the text’s form and content. The findings suggest that the following elements play the most significant role in the ode’s stylistic prominence: the prosodic meter in the phonetic layer; religious lexicon and combinations in the lexical layer; the passive voice in the syntactic layer; rhetorical questions in the rhetorical layer; and content based on fundamental religious concepts in the ideological layer.

Abstract The conduct and practices of the Infallibles, particularly Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (PBUH), play a fundamental role in shaping the behavioral and verbal models for Shia Muslims. Examining the content of the debates and discourses of the Infallibles has a significant impact on intellectual growth, awareness, and the strengthening of the beliefs of the Muslim community. This can also serve as a basis for attracting people, including fair-minded opponents and audiences. This article, based on three key areas—principles, methods, and the style of the Infallibles’ debates, specifically those of Imam al-Ridha (PBUH)—employs a textual analysis approach. The study demonstrates how the sacred figures, particularly Imam al-Ridha (PBUH), engaged in debates, how they based their arguments on the foundations of Quranic verses and the Prophetic tradition, how they utilized rational reasoning, which of the three methods—proof, good admonition, or the best argument—they most frequently employed, and which rhetorical style they preferred. According to research conducted in the Kitab al-Hujjah section of Al-Kafi, particularly concerning the necessity of following the Divine Proof, Imam al-Ridha’s (PBUH) debates are ranked third after the debates of Imam al-Sadiq (PBUH) and Imam al-Baqir (PBUH).

Abstract The Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice is one of the most important religious duties, indeed, the very foundation of their establishment, the continuous social reform, and the constant guardianship of society against various afflictions and threats. Today, this duty is at the center of social and domestic media attention. However, the numerous tensions and conflicts reported in domestic and foreign media regarding its implementation indicate that both society is not fully aware of the status and importance of this issue, and its executors need more study, deeper understanding, and serious training in terms of implementation methods and ethical requirements. One of the rich sources for understanding this issue is the scientific and practical conduct of Imam Reza (p.b.u.h). Having examined the narrations attributed to Imam Reza (p.b.u.h) and collected the relevant materials on the methods and ethical requirements of this duty, the author has endeavored to present a comprehensive research on the viewpoint of that esteemed Imam to the esteemed readers, through accurate categorization, fluent translation, and necessary explanations. According to the Razavi knowledge, the activism of one who enjoins good and forbids evil, utilizing various methods, is manifested in three stages: the heart, speech, and action, and is embodied in the belief of the enjoiner and the forbidder and the scientific and practical awareness of the addressee. Morality and wisdom are the foundation of this duty. And the necessity of wisdom is the presence of certain qualities in the soul of the Promotion and the Prevention, and a framework for their actions. And the more these factors are manifested, the more effective and lasting this duty will be.

Abstract Intercession and appeal is one of the important religious topics, which undoubtedly has its origin in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Rashidreza, with his intellectual efforts, interpretation and interpretation of some Quranic concepts, the Prophet’s (PBUH) and Companions, considers the prayers of Muslims to be heretical, intercession as the dominance of the intercessor’s will over the will of God, the creation and worship of the intercessor, and the prayer as a negation of God’s will. Considering the position of Rashid Reza and his views among Sunnis, it seems necessary to evaluate his intellectual foundations and analyze his approach, especially in the interpretation of al-Manar. This research, which was written with a descriptive-analytical method, has investigated the function of Razavi’s news from three aspects. First of all, considering the position and authority of Imam Reza (A.S) in explaining the beliefs of the Imamiyyah, many of Razavi’s (A.S) news can be used in the position of dispelling doubt - not removing doubt. In other words; The correct explanation of beliefs based on religious infallible reference texts leaves no room for many doubts.Second, many of Razavi’s (PBUH) reports are based on solid intellectual rules or the interpretation of Qur’anic verses, which will be accepted by all religions regardless of whether he (PBUH) is infallible or not. Thirdly, Imam Reza (A.S) has played the role of a narrator in many of his news stories, narrating news from the Prophet (S.A.W); Therefore, for Sunnis also - due to the lack of infallibility for Imam (A.S) - the opinion of considering him (A.S) as truthful will be valid. In this regard, the results are the extreme rationalism of Rashid Reza, the imposition of his mentalities on the verses and narrations, and the following contradictions. It causes his divergence from the book and tradition and his style, contrary to the belief in returning to the beliefs of the early Muslims and the essential criteria of interpretation from Almanar’s point of view.
