The mission of this study is to answer the question that Imam Reza's (pbuh) debates, with the aim of reaching the dimensions and identity-building aspects of Imam Reza's (a.s.) debates, were created in the face of the identity threats created by the false front, whose prominent symbol in that era was the Abbasid caliphate. What was its effect and the functions of what it was. Based on this, the functions of the Prophet's debates are divided into three areas: determining, distinguishing and protecting. The maximum monitoring of issues, questions and doubts and the presentation of various evidences and documents from internal and other sources in the debates, not only led to the establishment and determination of the Shiite identity and its distinction from non-identities, but its epistemological resolution guaranteed the identity security for the Shiite discourse.Based on the teachings of religion, it can be used as a strategy for the identification of individuals and societies. مناظره صحیح و جدال احسن، به‌مثابه محلی برای ملاقات اندیشه‌ها ، با توجه به دربرداشتن توأمان دو وجه ایجابی-اثباتی و سلبی-غیری ارتباط مستقیم و عمیقی با ساختار هویت بخشی به فرد، گروه و اجتماع دارد و قادر است نقش مهمی در مشخص شدن مرزهای هویتی ایفا کند. از سوی دیگر گذر از رویکردهای تقلیل‌گرایانه نسبت به بررسی سیره اهل‌بیت (ع) و بازنگری و بازنگاری در آن باهدف فهم آگاهانه از سیره هویت‌سازانه ایشان به‌مثابه الگویی اکنون ساز و آینده پرداز در جامعه اسلامی ضروری است. رسالت این پژوهه آن است تا باهدف دستیابی به ابعاد و جوانب هویت‌سازانه مناظرات امام رضا (ع) به این پرسش پاسخ دهد که اساساً مناظرات حضرت در مقابل تهدیدات هویتی که از سوی جبهه باطل که در آن عصر نماد برجسته‌اش خلافت عباسی بود، ایجادشده بود چه تأثیری داشته و کارکردهای آنچه بوده است. بر این اساس کارکردهای مناظرات حضرت در سه ساحت کارکردهای تعین‌بخش، تمایزبخش و صیانت‌بخش تقسیم‌بندی می‌شود. رصد حداکثری مسائل، پرسش‌ها و شبهات و ارائه ادله و مستندات گوناگون از منابع خودی و دیگری در مناظرات، نه‌تنها به تثبیت و تعیین هویت شیعی و تمایز آن از هویت‌های غیر منتهی شد بلکه رهاورد معرفتی آن امنیت هویتی را برای گفتمان شیعه تضمین نمود .مناظره بر اساس آموزه‌های دین، می‌تواند به‌مثابه راهبردی در جهت هویت‌سازی افراد و جوامع قرار گیرد. شرایط دشوار عصر امام رضا (ع) و تغییر سیاست خلافت عباسی از مبارزه و مواجهه آشکار به نبردی ترکیبی و با تنوع تهدیدات، مرزبندی‌های هویتی جامعه را مورد هدف قرار داده بود اما مناظرات حضرت به‌مثابه بخشی از راهبرد گذاری و راهکار گزینی امام، توانست مانع از موفقیت جریان خلافت شود.
